     About Honorable Chancellor

    Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan took oath as the Governor of Maharashtra on 31st July 2024. Before his appointment as the Governor of Maharashtra, he was the Governor of Jharkhand. While he was the Governor of Jharkhand, he was appointed by the President of India to discharge the duties of the posts of Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

    Shri Radhakrishnan has been a well-known figure in Tamil Nadu politics and public life for four decades. He was born on 20 October 1957 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu and holds a degree in Business Administration. He became associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh as a volunteer at an early age.

    In the year 1974, he became the state executive member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

    In 1996, Radhakrishnan was appointed as the BJP’s secretary in Tamil Nadu. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore in 1998. He was then re-elected to the Lok Sabha from the same constituency in 1999.

    During his five-year tenure as MP, he chaired the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Textiles. He was also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Finance. He was also a member of the Parliamentary Special Committee that investigated the Stock Exchange scam.

    In 2004, Shri Radhakrishnan addressed the United Nations General Assembly as a member of the parliamentary delegation. He was also a member of the first Indian parliamentary delegation to visit Taiwan.

    From 2004 to 2007, Radhakrishnan held the post of Tamil Nadu BJP state president. While in this post, he took out a 93-day ‘Rath Yatra’. This Rath Yatra covered 19,000 km. This Rath Yatra was taken out for the demands of linking all the rivers in India, complete eradication of terrorism, implementation of Uniform Civil Code, eradication of untouchability and eradication of drugs. After that, he also led two padyatras for different demands.

    In 2016, Dr. Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Chairman of Coir Board, Kochi. He held this post for four years. Under his leadership, the country’s coir exports reached an all-time high of Rs. 2532 crore. From 2020 to 2022, he was the All India In-charge of BJP’s Kerala state.

    Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand on 18 February 2023. Within his first four months in office, he visited all 24 districts of Jharkhand and interacted with citizens and district administrative officers.

    A great sportsman, Radhakrishnan was a college champion in table tennis and a long-distance runner. He is interested in cricket and volleyball.

    Shri Radhakrishnan has visited the United States, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Holland, Turkey, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Japan.
